NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) administrator Dr. Jane Lubchenco and Adm. Thad Allen joined state, federal, and partner biologists as they released 23 Kemp's ridley sea turtles back into the Gulf of Mexico near Cedar Key, Fla., after the turtles were successfully rescued and rehabilitated from the effects of the Deepwater Horizon/BP oil spill. The turtles received excellent treatment and care, including cleaning and de-oiling, at the Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans, and at the Gulf World in Panama City, Fla. The turtles were then cared for by SeaWorld Orlando, Mote Marine Laboratory, and the Florida Aquarium.

Most of the Kemp's ridley turtles are also found at San Diego Zoo in San Diego, CA. This year, my family and I went and visited the amusement park on April and August of this year. It devastates me when such innocent species have to go through this. I have a reptile turtle named Juanita and I can't imagine for her to be harm as shown at the bottom of this article.

What Causes Oil Spills?

Oil spills can be caused by people making mistakes or being careless, equipment breaking down, and natural disasters such as hurricanes. When oil floats on salt water (the ocean) and usually floasts on fresh water (rivers and lakes), can sometimes spread rapidly across the water surface. Oil spills can be very harmful to marine birds, mammals, and also can harm fish and shellfish.

One of the most badliest consequences on having the oil spill into the ocean is that the spill is causing extreme damage to marine and wildlife habitats as well as the Gulf's fishing and tourism industries.

-Let's pray and hope everything gets clean up in the Earth's environment, from the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun, and to conserve and manage our coastal and marine resources.
